Douglas Hyde, Adv.Dip.Ayur, B.A.(Biology)
Douggie Hyde is a native of Co. Clare. He has a Bachelor of Arts (Biology) from the University of Denver (DU) and it was during his studies in Denver that his interest in Ayurveda began. Doug transferred to DU from the University College of Galway upon receiving a swimming scholarship in 1997. He trained at an elite level in the USA until 2000 when he retired. It was during these intensive years of training that he also saw the practicalities of Ayurveda for atheletes and in 2003 he decided to make this his chosen career.
Douggie then embarked on a 4 year training program at Ayurveda college, in New South Wales (NSW), Australia. He was taught by Prof. J. Chandler a highly respected Vaidyacharya (Ayurvedic Doctor & Teacher) who taught him the value in following the sacred teachings of the classical texts. Doug brings this wisdom to his practice. Douggie is passionate about all areas of Ayurveda from consultations & teaching to pancha karma cleanses and treatments.

Yvette Hyde,
B. Hsc(Nat), B. Comm.
My name is Yvette and I am a co-owner of Satmya which opened in 2007. I am originally from county Kildare but moved to Killaloe in 2007 after 7 years in Australia. I have completed two degrees, the first in something I was mildly interested in but has subsequently come in very handy (Bachelor of Commerce) and the second in something I am truly passionate about (Bachelor of Health Science, Naturopathy). I studied Commerce at the National University of Ireland, Galway (NUIG) and upon completion travelled extensively which led me to Sydney where I discovered it was possible to study natural medicine at a university level. I immediately jumped at the chance and have immersed myself in it ever since.
During my studies I worked at an organic food/health store as a health advisor (supplements, herb advice, etc) & also as a chiropractic assistant (I’m also passionate about body therapies). This experience gave me an amazing insight into the industry and helped to develop my practice. In my final years of studying I did some extra work experience at a natural fertility centre (The Jocelyn Centre), and a natural allergy clinic (Allergy Free) where I was able to hone my abilities as a herbalist working in a herbal dispensary with experienced herbalists. I also spent a summer in India studying Homeopathy at the Bengal Allen Clinic in Calcutta and observing an esteemed Homeopath/Doctor in Mumbai (Dr. Rashmi Jaising).
After a tough 4 years of studying my enthusiasm was rewarded and I received the accolade of Naturopathy Student of the year from ACNT & Phytomedicine. I then embarked on my new career which began at the herbal dispensary in Fundamental health foods (an institution for all things natural in Paddington, Brisbane) and was part of the instigation of a successful pilot wellness program for the Queensland orchestra.
After nearly 8 years in Australia I decided it was time to return home and bring my new skills with me.
I am still as passionate as ever about my career and continue to attend courses and workshops to keep up to date and enhance my skills. I have been lucky enough to study with some of the best names in Herbalism (Matthew Wood & Julia Graves) and Homeopathy (Rajan Sankaran and Jan Scholten). I have also attended many Ayurveda seminars as I have developed a keen interest in this are too.
Techincally I would be labelled a Naturopath but since returning to Ireland this title has diminished in value as it does not really equate to the same things as it did in Australia. The training here is considerably shorter and is not at a degree level. I am a qualified Homeopath and Herbalist and am trained equally in both as well as other modalities such as nutrition, iridology, massage, etc. Homeopathy is my passion but I see herbalism, nutrition and massage as vital adjunct therapies. Ayurveda has given my practice a framework which admittedly was slightly lacking from my training. Naturopathy is in it’s infancy compared with Ayurveda and this ancient science has enhanced my practice considerably. I use Homeopathic & Herbal medicines for treatment and believe that both are incredibly effective forms of medicine but I find the Ayurvedic model for wellness to be by far the most holistic when considering body, mind & spirit.
I see a variety of people with a wide range of health problems but if asked what my area of interest is, my leaning would be towards womens health and depressive states/disorders. I believe natural medicine picks up the slack here & that bandaid solutions such as the contraceptive pill, HRT, prozac and xanax are unfortunately overused and misused. In my opinion, there are many natural solutions to these health problems.
I practice the following modalities at Satmya:
- Homeopathy
- Western Herbal Medicine
- Nutrition
- Remedial & Sports Massage
- Ayurvedic Treatments
I am a member of the IRH and was a member of ATMS in Australia.
